Harmony Hirsch is the Senior Technical Lead and Writer at ChemTrack Alaska, Inc. Harmony has worked in the environmental field since the year 2000 and began working for ChemTrack in 2004.
Harmony’s experience varies widely, as she always wanted to learn and master whatever skill was necessary for the task. She put time in as a laborer, an abatement worker, air monitor and soil and groundwater sampling technician. From there, she began operating heavy equipment including front-end loaders, bulldozers, excavators and dump trucks. For some time, she operated heavy equipment for a construction company as a finish grade operator in the IUOE 302.
After gaining much field experience in several positions, she shifted into manager roles including contractor quality control (CQC), health and safety officer (SSHO) and as a field manager/site superintendent. Her real-life knowledge is exercised with aiding in the development of technical approaches for ChemTrack’s proposals and projects. Harmony is currently enrolled in the UAA College of Engineering pursuing a degree in Geomatics while balancing work and life.
Harmony was born in Anchorage and grew up in Palmer near the base of Hatchers Pass. Her family fully embodied the love of the outdoors and spent much time at remote cabins in the wilderness of Alaska. She learned to snowmachine with the best of them and learned to snowboard in Hatchers Pass. The love of these two sports paved the way for much of her adult life. She worked at several ski resorts across the west, and eventually found herself back in Alaska operating snowcats at Alyeska Resort.
In the winter you can find her climbing mountains on her snowmachine to access the backcountry, snowboarding at Alyeska, or enabling children to become snowboarding and freeski athletes in several disciplines – competing locally and nationally. She is currently the Co-Series Director for Team Big Alaska, a United States of America Snowboard & Freeski Program that is part of the Olympic Pipeline. In the summer, Harmony, her boyfriend Brendon and two Schipperke’s (Captain & Pip) are always attempting to fill the freezer by fly-fishing for salmon in very secret spots.
